Gardening a year agoHi. Can anyone recommend an online seed supplier? I would prefer to buy local (sf east bay area), but prefer heirloom or highest quality and not sure a local retailer has this. Thanks!

Dave, have you checked Westbrae Nursery (an employee coop) in Berkeley? 510-526-5517 Open 7 days a week 9-5:30 (unlike East Bay Nursery, also in Berkeley, that’s closed Sundays & Mondays). Westbrae is my favorite nursery (which I can bike to).

Gardening a year agoHello. I have a watering question. I am going to utilize some already established ground level planting beds with a brick border that border my backyard as a new vegetable garden. The areas are currently on a traditional sprinkler system. What type of automatic sprinkler system would be best suited for this area as I’m considering upgrading…

I’m no expert at this sort of thing, but can’t you install drip on just the section you wish and then allow that section to work with the timer as long or as often as you need…separate from the rest of the backyard? You can move the drip around or add to it as you find you need to.

Thanks Kev! Might not try to grow it here in my yard as it might freeze one night out of the year and just at freezing temp. I’m trying to grow currants on the north side in the shade, and they are budding new leaves finally after looking very unhappy for a year, so that’s probably stretching their need for cold. LOL

He Shou Wu - can I grow it in Fresno?
… and if I were to grow my own, would I just use it as a tea?

Gardening 2 years agoHello fellow gardeners! Curious if anyone can recommend a good water filter for the garden. I’m on lousy city water. When I water seedlings and house plants, I always use filtered or at the very least add a few drops of humic acid to neutralize the chlorine. I know I need to add something to the outside hose for my plants and soil…

@geraldgreen , I haven’t tried this particular filter, but I have used their gravity filter system filters for household use. Take a look and see if this might work for you. https://radiantlifecatalog.com/garden-gro/

Thanks again for the tips. A state of the mind would be the key, yes. Its weird to worry about being late with this or that job in the garden or being unsatisfied with how plants look, having expectations etc as these surroundings are naturally elevating mood. Theres some programming involved in my case, because I remember being kid in the…

I wonder if this book and this type of seeding was inspired by what the deva kingdom does in our gardens. I cannot see them but some of my friends do and they can see them working on the flowers etc. so in a way your are tuning into the necessary flow. this is so inspiring. thank you for sharing ❤

theres actually a guerilla seeder written in Estonian folklore. A book named “Kevade” (Spring) which is a mustread for every student here has a character Toots who is always trouble everywhere. And of course when its time to plant seeds in Spring he goes mixing everything and does in wild way. So in everyday language these lush…
