Thank you so much Hugh! Very helpful. It looks like I already have the CLBC from Obama’s example. I was thinking I would need to obtain my actual birth record, rather than a certified copy with my name in all CAPS. But it sounds like this is not necessary.

Hi Sara,
First thing to consider is if you need to authenticate or not. From what I’ve heard, you can do a special request for the “longer” version in California. Call the office and see what they say. The one with more information is usually the Certificate of Live Birth and doesn’t need to be authenticated. You can see the difference…

Hugh, I am looking into how to authenticate my birth certificate. I have certified copies of my “Certificate of Live Birth”, but in California that seems to be what they issue as a “Birth Certificate”. I am just starting the process of changing my status by applying for a passport under “national” status, but am looking for exact directions…

Also…you can get a bible birth record authenticated at the state or federal level and still get a passport, or use it when you need “official” documentation.
Banking could be done with a foreign EIN, instead of a SSN.

Actually “Birth” Certificate is a play on words, and used to deliberately imply “Berth”. A newborn is literally considered “unclaimed cargo” at port. Hi!! Robert Scott Bell (homeopathic doctor) didn’t get birth certificates for his children and he did a podcast answering ?’s on the topic. Hope it helps!! Wish I would have done it with my kiddos way back when.
